PTA AGM Report - 23 Nov 2015


Introduction

The meeting was chaired by Aine Kelly, the Vice Chair of the PTA and it was attended by the Chair of the Board of Management, Fr. John O’Connor, Principal Mr Jim Halligan and Deputy Principal, Ms Paula Kelly, PTA Committee Members and a number of parents.

A report was also presented on the activities of the fund raising group (see below) as well an update on the Board of Management.



PTA's 2014/15 Activities

The meeting opened with some background on the PTA as on the About Us page followed by a report on the PTA’s activities in 2014/15 as follows:-

Supporting the fundraising group in running the Mid Term Cake Sale 2014.
·         Christmas Party 2014 –thanks to Cora Plant-Hurley for co-ordinating this event.
·     
  
Providing hospitality for Grandparents Day and Secondary School’s evening.
·     
 
Organising the NPC Anti bullying training seminar for parents in March and arranging for the ISPCC to talk to students and fundraising for the ISPCC with Blue Shields –thanks to Helen Griffin and Deirdre Michel for co-ordinating.
·         Daffodil day – huge thanks to all parents who supported this - €1100 raised and to Louise Whelan for co-ordinating.
·         Communion and Confirmation receptions for students and their families – a big thank you to all who helped at these events and to Louise Hanly, Dawn, Louise Whelan and Suzanne for co-ordinating these events.
·         Graduation sweatshirts organised by Suzanne MacNeill as a momentum for the kids leaving in 2015 – again thanks to Suzanne for co-ordinating.
·         Sports Day –hospitality provided on the day and funds raised
·     
 
End of Year show – fire stewards and tuck shop provided by the PTA
·        Swimming lessons organised once again for the school year 2015/2016 –Tuesday in Loughlinstown and Friday in Shoreline Bray – a big thank you to Evelyn for taking on this task and co-ordinating.
·      Development of Solas Yard –Cora Plant-Hurley set up a working group with staff in the school and saw the project through to completion in time for the September in- take of new Junior Infants. This yard is now being used on a rotational basis. A big thank you to Cora.
·   Play in Park in August in Shanganagh park – thanks to Shankill GAA for their support and involvement
·         Coffee morning for new Junior Infant parents
·     
  
Supporting the fundraising committee in running the Mid-term cake sale just gone
·     Organising colouring competition for all students at Mid Term, providing themed goodie bags – thanks to Dawn for co-ordinating
·         Newsletters issued to all parents – thanks to Julie-Ann for co-ordinating
·       Thanks to John Coveney for capturing all of the above occasions on camera and for updating the St Anne’s blog
·         Facebook page set up for Junior Infants 2014 and 2015 – if anyone is interested in setting up a FB for older classes please contact a member of the PTA

A class rep system is currently being set up across the school so if there are any volunteers please contact a member of the PTA.

Main Points of PTA Treasurer's Report

Total Income for the year amounted to €8,643.90, the main contributors being the Christmas party generating €2,100, Confirmation €1,658, First Communion €1,403 and 6th Class Hoodies €1,250.

Total Expenditure for the year amounted to €6,523.31,key drivers being Christmas Party €874.50, Confirmation €1,553.37, First Communion €1,666.79 and 6th Class Hoodies €1,270.

Overall the PTA activities for the school year 2014/2015 generated a surplus of €2,120.59 Income over Expenditure 

PTA Retirements

Aine Kelly on behalf of the PTA  thanked all those retiring members of the PTA for all they had done over the past year and number of years in some cases – Toni Carroll ( Secretary), Louise Whelan, Debbie Elmes, Dermot Walsh, Deirdre Michel, Ian McDonald ( also outgoing BOM Rep) and Helen Griffin (also outgoing BOM Rep)

PTA Constitutional Amendment

The following amendment of the current PTA Constitution was put before the members of the PTA to be voted on at the AGM by those present.

It is proposed to replace 5.2.2 (vi)

‘Teachers will serve a one year term on the committee’   

with
‘Teachers will be elected for one year. Teachers may go forward for election in subsequent years however no teacher may sit on the committee for more than two consecutive years.’

This is in line with the wording for parent representatives on the committee in 5.2.1 (v). The full constitution is here. The attendees voted on the amendment and the amendment was passed by majority.

Acknowledgment & Thanks

Aine thanked a number of people on behalf of the PTA – Mr.Halligan , the Administration staff in the school – Phil and Maria, Ogie the School caretaker for their support to the PTA throughout the year;  Marianne, Anne and Mary Sarah for overseeing the school carpark in the mornings. A special thanks was also given to Aine and Michelle who donated tea and Coffee. Marie Ryan who recently retired from the teaching staff was also thanked for her contribution to the school over the years.

Fundraising Group

James Maguire of the Fundraising group provided the attendees with an update on the fundraising activities carried out over the year and the funds raised totalling €12,000:

Mid term Cake Sale €2,000

Treadmill Challenge in Brady’s Pub Shankill €1,500

Calendar €4,000

Family Funday €3,000

End of Year Table Quiz €2,000

A total of €2,775 has been raised since the start of 2015-16 school year; €1,875 from the Mid term cake sale and €900 from the recent raffle. The group anticipate the upcoming calendar sale will yield in the region of €3,750 with 12 local businesses providing sponsorship.
